ModRetro

ModRetro and OpenAI built 13 Game Boy Color games with Codex and put them online as playable ROMs. The games are free, the DevDay handhelds are already on eBay for thousands, and the more interesting story is the cartridge flashing pipeline underneath.

ModRetro released Earthworm Jim and Rayman 2 Forever on real Game Boy cartridges with no announcement at all. They run on original hardware, not just the Chromatic, and they bring the first party library to 23 games.

Brand new, boxed, licensed Game Boy cartridges are being manufactured right now. Here is who is publishing them, what they cost, and what hardware you need to play them.

ModRetro followed the Chromatic with an FPGA Nintendo 64. The M64 plays your real carts region free, pushes 4K over HDMI, and costs $20 less than the Analogue 3D. The catch is that the controller and HDMI cable are extra.

The ModRetro Chromatic plays your real Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges through an FPGA. It is a focused, premium, beautifully built handheld with zero input lag and a stunning backlit screen.
