On 13 October 2026, AYN posted a picture to Instagram and Discord. It showed a handheld, the words "Odin 3 Portal", a tagline, and "Coming Soon". That is the entire announcement.

No chipset. No screen size. No RAM, no storage, no battery, no price, no preorder date, no ship date.

Which makes the next part strange. Go looking for Odin 3 Portal specs today and you will find a full spec sheet. A 7.0 inch screen, 1920x1080, 120Hz, 314 pixels per inch, 430 grams, 257 x 98.6 x 17.2 mm, 128GB of storage, an 8000 mAh battery. It reads like a product page.

AYN did not publish any of it. Here is what was actually said, where those numbers came from, and the part of this story that genuinely matters.

The Short Version

  • AYN announced the Odin 3 Portal on 13 October 2026 through its Instagram and Discord accounts. One image.
  • The tagline is "Flagship Power. Precision Control. Your World, Your Way." The image also says "Coming Soon."
  • There are no official specifications. Not one. AYN published no chipset, screen, memory, storage, battery, price or date.
  • The shell looks almost identical to the Odin 2 Portal and the Odin 3. AYN has always kept a separate, larger body for the Portal line.
  • The spec sheets circulating are forecasts, not specifications. The site they come from marks them as preliminary. The outlets repeating them dropped that label.
  • A Dragonwing Q8 in a bigger shell is the reasonable guess, because that is the chip in the Odin 3 and the Portal has always been the big screen sibling.
  • The real story is what it would replace. We still recommend the Odin 2 Portal Pro for Switch emulation, and it runs a chip from 2023.

What AYN Actually Said

AYN did not hold an event or issue a press release. It posted an image to social media, which is how AYN has teased most of its hardware.

The image carries the product name and the tagline. "Flagship Power" and "Precision Control" are marketing copy, not claims you can check. "Coming Soon" is the only scheduling information in existence.

The shell in the picture has rounded edges, two analog sticks, the familiar Odin button layout and stereo speakers. People looking at it immediately said the same thing: it looks like the Odin 2 Portal. Retro Handhelds put it plainly, that AYN is "not making big moves with its aesthetics."

That is not a criticism. The Odin 2 Portal shell is well regarded, and reusing a good body is cheaper than tooling a new one. It does mean the picture tells you almost nothing about the hardware inside.

The Spec Sheet AYN Never Published

This is the part worth slowing down for, because it is a good lesson in how handheld specs get invented.

Spec aggregator sites keep a page per device. When a device is announced without specs, some of those pages fill in the blanks with expectations, then mark them with an asterisk or a question mark. That is honest enough on the original page. The problem starts when the numbers get copied somewhere else and the asterisk does not come along.

Take the 314 pixels per inch figure. A 1920x1080 panel has a diagonal of 2,203 pixels. Divide that by 7.0 inches and you get 314.7. The PPI number is not a measurement of anything. It is arithmetic performed on two assumptions, that the screen is 7.0 inches and that it is 1080p. If either assumption is wrong, so is the figure.

The same logic applies to the rest of it. The weight, the dimensions, the storage and the battery all look like sensible guesses built from the Odin 2 Portal and the Odin 3. They may well turn out to be close. But right now they are predictions wearing the clothes of specifications, and the page they came from says so.

What Is Reasonable to Expect

Guessing is fine as long as it is labelled. Here is the reasoning, not just the conclusion.

The chipset is very likely the Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8. That is the chip in the Odin 3. Dragonwing is Qualcomm's rebrand for its industrial and embedded parts, and the Q8 is effectively a Snapdragon 8 Elite without the cellular modem, which is exactly what a handheld wants. A device called the Odin 3 Portal almost certainly shares the Odin 3's silicon, because the Portal has always been the same generation in a bigger body. The Odin 2 Portal used the Odin 2's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

The screen is very likely bigger than 6 inches. That is the entire point of the Portal line. The Odin 2 Portal Pro has a 7 inch 1080p OLED at 120Hz. The Odin 3 has a 6 inch panel. If the Odin 3 Portal were not larger it would have no reason to exist.

An Ultra tier is doubtful. AYN raised prices three times this year, and the 24GB Ultra configuration has quietly dropped off recent Odin 3 batches. Component costs are the stated reason.

Why This Matters More Than a Shell Refresh

Here is the thing nobody covering the teaser said out loud.

This site still tells people that the Odin 2 Portal Pro is the most consistent handheld for Switch emulation. That recommendation has held all year, and it is built on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a chip that launched in late 2023. The reason it holds is not raw power. It is the combination of a 7 inch 1080p OLED, 12GB of RAM, fast UFS 4.0 storage and an 8000 mAh battery in a body that feels genuinely premium.

Nothing has displaced it, including the Odin 3. The Odin 3 is faster, but it has a 6 inch screen, and from batch 7 onward AYN moved it from UFS 4.0 to the slower UFS 3.1. For a lot of buyers those two changes cancelled out the speed gain.

An Odin 3 Portal is the first device that could plausibly fix all of it at once. A Dragonwing Q8, a 7 inch panel and a Portal class battery would be the Odin 2 Portal Pro's actual successor rather than a sidegrade. If AYN also puts UFS 4.0 back in, the recommendation on this site changes.

So the question to ask when specs land is not "how fast is it." It is "what storage did they use, and how big is the screen." Those two lines will decide whether this is the new Switch emulation pick.

The Price Problem

AYN pricing has moved a lot this year, so it is worth putting the real numbers down.

Odin 3 tierRAMStoragePrice
Base8GB128GB$369
Pro12GB256GB$469
Max16GB512GB$529
Ultra24GB1TBdelisted on recent batches

That ladder reflects three separate increases during 2026, the most recent on 1 September. The Odin 3 launched well below this and crept upward as memory prices climbed.

The Odin 2 Portal Pro sits at $399. Historically the Portal variant carries a premium over the base Odin of the same generation, because a bigger screen and a bigger battery cost more.

We are not going to invent a number for the Odin 3 Portal. What we will say is that anyone budgeting for it should be looking above the Odin 3 Base price, not at it, and that the trend this year has been upward rather than down.

The Timing Is Worth Noticing

The Odin 3 Portal was announced on the same day a different story broke. The Entertainment Software Association asked the US Trade Representative to add Anbernic's store to its Notorious Markets report, calling handhelds sold with preloaded games "the functional equivalent of superfakes." We covered that in the ESA filing against Anbernic.

The two stories are connected by one detail that explains the whole filing. The complaint is not about emulation hardware. It is about the memory card in the box. AYN's own Odin 3 product page states that "there are no games preinstalled."

That is the line separating a brand that got named from a brand that did not. It is a useful thing to understand if you are shopping for any Android handheld right now.

Should You Wait?

Buy an Odin 3 now if you want the fastest Android handheld available and a 6 inch screen suits you. It is the best performer on the market today and waiting for an unannounced device with no date is a long wait.

Buy an Odin 2 Portal Pro now if the 7 inch screen and Switch emulation are the priority. It remains our pick for that job, and its UFS 4.0 storage is still faster than what the current Odin 3 ships with.

Wait if you specifically want a large screen flagship and you are not in a hurry. The Odin 3 Portal is clearly real and clearly coming. Just understand that "Coming Soon" from AYN has historically meant months, and that AYN ships in batches with preorder waits on top.

Do nothing if you already own an Odin 2 Portal Pro. Nothing announced so far gives you a reason to upgrade, and until specs exist there is nothing to compare.

We will cover the full specifications when AYN publishes them, and this page will be updated rather than replaced.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the AYN Odin 3 Portal specs?

AYN has not published any. As of 17 October 2026 the announcement consists of one image, the product name, the tagline "Flagship Power. Precision Control. Your World, Your Way" and the words "Coming Soon." Any full spec sheet you find for this device is a prediction, not a specification.

Is the Odin 3 Portal a 7 inch handheld?

Probably, but it is not confirmed. The Portal line has always used a larger screen than the standard Odin, and the Odin 2 Portal Pro is 7 inches. The 7.0 inch figure circulating online comes from a spec database that marks its own entry as preliminary. AYN has said nothing about the screen.

What chip does the Odin 3 Portal use?

Unconfirmed. The reasonable expectation is the Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8, the same chip as the Odin 3, because the Portal has always used the same generation of silicon as the standard Odin in a larger body. AYN has not stated this.

How much will the AYN Odin 3 Portal cost?

Unknown. For reference, the Odin 3 currently runs $369 for the Base tier, $469 for Pro and $529 for Max, after three price increases during 2026. The Odin 2 Portal Pro is $399. Portal variants have historically cost more than the standard Odin of the same generation.

When does the Odin 3 Portal come out?

There is no date. AYN said "Coming Soon" and has not opened preorders or announced a shipping window. AYN also sells in batches, so the gap between a preorder and a delivered unit is usually weeks on top of the launch date.

Should I wait for the Odin 3 Portal instead of buying an Odin 3?

Only if a large screen is important to you and you can wait indefinitely. There is no announced date, no price and no spec sheet. If you want the fastest handheld today, the Odin 3 is that device. If you want 7 inches today, the Odin 2 Portal Pro already exists.

Is the Odin 3 Portal replacing the Odin 2 Portal Pro?

That looks like the intent, and it matters because the Odin 2 Portal Pro is still our Switch emulation recommendation despite running a 2023 chipset. Whether the Odin 3 Portal actually replaces it depends on two specs nobody has yet: the screen size and whether AYN uses UFS 4.0 storage or the slower UFS 3.1 the current Odin 3 shipped from batch 7 onward.
