The Game Bub is the first fully open source FPGA retro handheld, built by Second Bedroom and funded on Crowd Supply. It plays original Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges through custom FPGA cores rather than software emulation, so accuracy and latency track the real hardware. What sets it apart is openness. The circuit design, firmware, and cores are all public, so it is hackable and repairable, and it doubles as an AMD Artix 7 development platform.
